Dr Aoife Duffy

Dr Aoife Duffy has over 20 years’ experience in the Life Sciences area, specialising in Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMPs), Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), Quality Control and Regulatory Affairs. Aoife was Head of Manufacturing at CCMI, University of Galway, from 2010 to 2019. In 2013, Aoife played an essential role in getting the regulatory license for the first approved ATMP manufacturing facility in Ireland to produce ATMPs. Aoife successfully led technical transfer, process development and clinical trial approvals for 4 clinical trials in Ireland and across Europe for various different ATMPs for different disease indications (Critical Limb Ischemia, Osteoarthritis, Diabetic Kidney Disease).
In 2020 Aoife joined Hitech Health as the Head of Operations for Cell and Gene Therapy and successfully set up and lead a team to get approval of the first commercial Contract Development and Manufacturing Organisation (CDMO) for ATMPs in Ireland, obtaining a GMP authorisation from the HPRA in 2023. Aoife led multiple commercial and industry projects, as well as successfully securing 3 Disruptive Technologies Innovation Fund (DTIF) grants (as lead and partner) with Hitech Health.
Aoife brings a wealth of organisation, operational and technical expertise to the TSD and will drive the TSD forward to establish a best-in-class core facility to service the needs of researchers, collaborators and industry partnerships.
