Congratulations
to two former GNC Directors on promotion to Professor
Congratulations to Prof Karen Doyle and Prof Dara Cannon on their recent promotion to Professor. Prof Doyle was the founding member of the GNC and have been instrumental in bringing together neuroscience researchers across the university . She is the first female Professor in Physiology at the University of Galway and the current President of Neuroscience Ireland, Ireland national neuroscience society (https://neuroscienceireland.com/). Her research involves studying neurovascular stress, the causes of neuronal loss and investigating novel strategies to protect brain tissue from damage. Prof Doyle’s focus is on understanding the pathophysiology of occlusive stroke and the characteristics of human blood clots that cause occlusive strokes. For full profile see here
Prof Cannon, is based in the discipline of Anatomy and is only female Professor in the discipline. She was the Director of the GNC from 2015-2017 and is the Presidient-elect of Neuroscience Ireland. A particular focus of her research is on the contribution of human neuroimaging including MRI-derived measures of brain structure, function or connectivity combined with genomics, cognitive and environmental factors to understand psychiatric phenomena including mood dysregulation and psychosis.
