Declan Devane is a professor of Health Research Methodology and Deputy Dean of the College of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences at University of Galway. With a background in nursing and midwifery, he focuses on clinical trial design, evidence synthesis, and getting research into practice.
He founded Evidence Synthesis Ireland (incorporating Cochrane Ireland) and the HRB-Trials Methodology Research Network. He has led trials with up to 3,000 participants, published over 330 papers including 30+ Cochrane reviews, and secured over €22 million in funding as principal investigator.
His work has influenced the World Health Organisation and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control guidance and serves on dozens of trial steering committees and data monitoring boards internationally.
