Engineering, quality of life and elite sport – three sides of the same coin

This webinar shows how collaboration between engineers and elite athletes can not only improve the state-of-the-art in aerodynamics’ research, but also impact people’s quality of life and help winning gold medals.

The speakers on the day included Mark Rohan, a gold-winning para-cyclist and former Gaelic football and wheelchair basketball player, and Dr. Paul Mannion, an expert engineer in aerodynamics’ simulation.

This event was organised by the School of Engineering Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee at University of Galway and supported by Engineers Ireland West, Ryan Institute and MaREI Research Centre.

EU Passworld


UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency in Ireland, Nasc, the Migrant and Refugee Rights Centre, and University of Galway are establishing the EU-Passworld project in Ireland. This offers the opportunity for a refugee currently residing in Nigeria to continue their higher education at the University of Galway.

We are committed to values of respect, openness, sustainability and excellence including our University of Sanctuary initiative which facilitates access to higher education for refugees and other marginalised communities.

Safe Sanctuary: Belonging at the University of Galway


University of Galway is the first university to implement a pathway for refugees residing outside Ireland.


College of Science and Engineering welcomed its first two scholars in August 2023 through the highly competitive and merit-based EU Password Scholarship Programme.
