Dr Aideen O'Doherty, Head of Programmes, Institute for Clinical Trials.

A B.Sc. (Biotechnology) graduate of University of Galway and with a keen interest in medical research, Aideen completed a Ph.D. in molecular genetics through Queens University Belfast in 1999. She then undertook a postdoctoral research position in University College London and the National Institute for Medical Research (now Francis Crick Institute) before returning to her alma mater University of Galway in 2003. There she continued her scientific and clinical research career with positions aligned to Regenerative Medicine Institute, Molecular Medicine Ireland and the HRB-Clinical Research Facility Galway as scientific researcher, educator, administrator, trial manager and programme manager. Aideen also holds a Diploma in Project Management (University of Limerick) and Certificate in Clinical Research (Harvard University).

Her role with the Institute for Clinical Trials involves supporting local, national and international researchers in the delivery of clinical trials, management of teams providing essential research services, development of policies to safeguard research participants and stakeholders, development of national and international funding applications, education and research dissemination.

Aideen’s foundation in medical science and genetics drives her passion to collaborate and strategise on optimal ways to resource, conduct and successfully deliver clinical trials.
