Dr. KM Saif-Ur-Rahman
Dr. KM Saif-Ur-Rahman specialises in evidence synthesis and health research methods. Saif is a Research Fellow at the University of Galway and the Senior Research Methodologist at Evidence Synthesis Ireland and Cochrane Ireland. Originally trained as a physician, he later specialised in epidemiology and evidence synthesis, completing his Ph.D. at Nagoya University, where he focused on non-communicable diseases and geriatric epidemiology. Saif has extensive experience in researching both infectious and chronic diseases in resource-limited settings, employing diverse research methodologies.
His significant contributions include leading numerous evidence synthesis projects and authoring over 100 scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals (h-index 26; i10-index 45). He is proficient in various evidence synthesis methodologies, including systematic reviews, scoping reviews, rapid reviews, and evidence gap maps. His projects often assess the effectiveness of interventions, cost-effectiveness, and vaccine efficacy. At Evidence Synthesis Ireland, he has successfully managed projects commissioned by various high-profile bodies.
In addition to his research work, Saif has conducted numerous training sessions on evidence synthesis across Bangladesh, Japan, and Ireland, enhancing the capacity of researchers, academicians, and health professionals.
Beyond evidence synthesis, Saif is experienced in conducting randomised controlled trials and surveillance studies in resource-limited settings. He is a founding member of the Systematic Review Centre at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, Bangladesh and the Primary Health Care Research Consortium (PHCRC). He also serves as an associate editor for BMC Systematic Reviews, is a member of the GRADE working group, and the Vice-Chair of the Research Ethics Committee at the University of Galway.
