Bio:

Dr Maria Costello is a Consultant Geriatrician and Senior Lecturer in Geriatric Medicine within University Hospital Galway and University of Galway. She is clinically working within the integrated care programme for older persons (ICPOP) covering West Galway City and County. She has a strong research portfolio and was awarded her PhD entitled “Importance of the Caregiver in Lifestyle Interventions for Cognitive Impairment” in 2021 under the supervision of Professor Martin O Donnell and Professor Michelle Canavan. She have been an active member of a meta-analysis working group and neurovascular research group which has also resulted in several international publications. To date she has published over thirty original articles (including publications in JAMA and NEJM) over fourty abstracts which have been presented at national and international conferences. She has completed formal modules in biostatistics, observational research, research methods for randomised controlled trials and health research and evaluation methods and has been a peer reviewer for HRB Open Research. Her goals are to provide high-quality patient care, and further develop collaborative relationships with multidisciplinary, hospital and University-based colleagues who are equally committed to providing excellent care to the older population.
