Dr Pilib Ó Broin
Pilib is an Assistant Professor in Bioinformatics within the School of Mathematical & Statistical Sciences. His group is engaged in highly innovative and impactful research in precision medicine, with a particular interest in functional genomics. A large part of this work focuses on the development and application of statistical and machine learning approaches for the integration of genetic and clinical data, in order to identify biomarkers for the prediction of disease progression, treatment response, and relapse risk. In addition to being a funded investigator in the SFI ADAPT centre and the SFI Centre for Research Training (CRT) in Genomics Data Science, he also leads the University of Galway’s involvement in a €10.5M DTIF-funded project on cancer immunotherapies and a €4M HEA North-South project on cancer liquid biopsies.
