Major EU Health Experts Convene in University of Galway for EU Project on Pandemic Preparedness
European health and emergency response agencies come together to finalise the innovations and technologies in the €10M PANDEM-2 project

Tuesday 25th April 2023: Health and emergency response agencies gather at the University of Galway for the kick-off of a two-day event as part of the PANDEM-2 project which aims to prepare Europe for future pandemics. Led by University of Galway, the project’s leading health experts from 13 European countries have come together to finalise the tools and solutions for pandemic management under the PANDEM-2 project, including an EU-wide pandemic preparedness training platform. Health experts from 6 national public health agencies including Dr Anders Tegnell, the former chief epidemiologist in Sweden, will join clinicians and first responders to speak about the challenges and lessons learned from the past to prepare for future pandemics, and how PANDEM-2 outputs can address these challenges.
Professor Máire Connolly, University of Galway, and Coordinator of the PANDEM-2 project, said:
“We are delighted to host this gathering of EU health experts. The PANDEM-2 project has demonstrated the importance of pandemic preparedness, and we believe that by working together and sharing knowledge, we can develop more effective strategies for responding to future pandemics at both national and EU level.”
Following its meeting at University of Galway, the PANDEM-2 partners will hold a Final Conference in Brussels in June 2023 to present project outputs and discuss a plan for implementation with EU agencies including ECDC and HERA.
