Getting Galway-ready

We are SO looking forward to welcoming our new international and visiting students to University of Galway in September.

It’s an exciting time filled with anticipation. You’re preparing to travel, packing for a new country and maybe even a new climate, but we understand it can also be a bit nerve-wracking. Many unknowns and new experiences await.

We want to make your journey as straightforward as possible, which is why we have prepared a pre-arrival doc to answer any questions you have about coming to Galway.

Did you ever wonder what kind of plug we use on electronics? What can you expect when arriving at the airport, or maybe how to navigate public transport? Don’t worry, we have you covered from the moment you land on Irish soil to starting your studies.

We strongly encourage you to read the guide from start to finish, and bookmark it so when you do arrive, you can reference it quickly if needed.

In addition to an interactive map featuring all the essentials you’ll need, highlights of the guide include accommodation advice (page 7), useful apps to download (page 33), packing tips (page 11), and social media accounts to follow (page 32).

Speaking of socials, make sure to follow us on Instagram @global_galway. Over the coming weeks, we will be sharing advice and useful updates around orientation and upcoming events.

In the spirit of University of Galway’s sense of community, our Global Student Ambassadors have gotten involved too, sharing their top tips and insights. After all, they were in your exact same position just one year ago, preparing to embark on their journey.

Follow the series on YouTube for the inside scoop.

Go dté tú slán! (safe travels!) and we’ll see you at Orientation!
