24 July 2024 "I am Number 17" exhibition opened at the Orbsen Building at University of Galway. The title of the campaign reflects the fact that 1 in 17 people in Ireland will be affected by a rare disease at some point in their lives.

Dr. Kasia Whysall, Vice Dean for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, a senior researcher and researcher at University of Galway, opened the exhibition along with her daughter Niamh.

Dr Whysall uses her background in scientific research to help understand Niamh's condition and she contributes to the medical community's understanding of the disease through her research. She advocates for more genomic screening and early diagnosis.

The aim of the exhibition is to bring awareness and visibility to those with rare diseases in Ireland in partnership with Rare Diseases Ireland.

The exhibition is initiated and funded by Takeda.
