McGinty Scholarship for Female Physicians & McGinty Scholarship for Allied Health Professionals

About the Scholarships: The McGinty Scholarships were established by alumna Dr Geraldine McGinty, a physician executive and radiologist, to empower a new cohort of women who will lead improved and impactful outcomes for patients and healthcare staff.

Established in 2020, the scholarships were introduced to encourage and enable female physicians and allied healthcare professionals to engage in the MBA programme, to support them on a career path to leadership in the healthcare sector. The McGinty Scholarships are available each year to support two women, one physician and one allied healthcare professional in the MBA programme at University of Galway.

Dr Geraldine McGinty is a graduate of Medicine at University of Galway and is a radiologist who specializes in the detection and diagnosis of breast cancer. She has served as Chair and President of the American College of Radiology Board of Chancellors and was the first woman to hold this post. She is an internationally renowned expert in imaging economics. She serves as a Non-Executive Director of IDA Ireland and is a member of the University of Galway Governing Authority.

MBA Scholarship in honour of local entrepreneur Colm Feeney

Colm Feeney established SSL Logistics, now Rhenus Logistics, in Galway. Mr Feeney also dedicated time and energy to helping other small business owners in Galway through mentorship, and it is in this spirit of giving back to the regional business community that his wife, Rosaleen and the Feeney family have established this new MBA scholarship in partnership with University of Galway. One aim of the Colm Feeney MBA Scholarship is to help small businesses and social organisations grow and thrive, and with that applicants working in organisations with fewer than 100 employees will be given priority.

This scholarship was lauched at a special event in February 2024 on campus attended by family, friends and the business community, which will pay tribute to Mr Feeney’s memory and legacy in the west of Ireland.

About the Scholarship: The Colm Feeney MBA Scholarship will support one high-calibre applicant with a scholarship to join the MBA programme at the University’s J.E. Cairnes School of Business and Economics in September 2024. The scholarship will be offered to one new recipient per intake over the next 4 years. The scholars will also have the opportunity of dedicated one-to-one mentorship throughout their studies from a leader in business.
