Alumni Spotlight: Rahul Dewan
We are excited to introduce Rahul Dewan, a University of Galway alumnus hailing from India. Rahul graduated in 2021 with a Master’s in International Management from the J.E. Cairnes School of Business & Economics. We had a chat with Rahul recently about his journey from University of Galway to his current role as Global Operations Manager - Supplier Accounts Payable. Read on to learn more about his experiences, insights, and the path that led him to his successful career.
What motivated you to pursue study at University of Galway?
A combination of being in one of the friendliest cities in Europe and quality education in a country with a robust job market made University of Galway a no-brainer for me.
Describe your overall experience as a student at University of Galway.
I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the university. Despite being part of the COVID batch where we had virtual classes, I felt a sense of camaraderie between my peers. There were ample opportunities to socialise virtually through societies and clubs that catered to a wide array of topics. This also helped me settle into Galway very quickly and post covid when we could socialise in person, we continued those friendships and networks till today
What experience, if any, did you have with the Career Development Centre at University of Galway?
During my MSc programme, the Career Development Centre ran CV clinics, which helped me polish my CV to suit the Irish market.
The career support team organised placements during the first semester of the master's program. This placement gave me and in and once I joined the company, it offered me an opportunity to change roles and move into a leadership position.

How did your programme prepare you for your current career?
More than I had hoped. The Masters in International Management exposed me to various business functions like marketing, finance, and strategic management, enabling me to easily transition into my role. The vast array of subjects enables me to think critically and all the functions that my decisions affect regularly.
Additionally, the course director educated us through the course and made us culturally aware of fitting into the Irish job market.
Would you recommend the MSc International Management to others, and why?
Yes, 100%. Without a shadow of a doubt. A combination of quality education, wide subject coverage, helpful professors, a friendly city and a high number of job opportunities would make it an ideal place to start or enhance your career in Ireland.
What piece of advice would you offer a current student/soon-to-be graduate?
Be as open in mind, heart and gut to new experiences, life happens when we are busy sticking to our plans.
