Professor Fidelma Dunne

Professor Fidelma Dunne is an internationally recognized academic clinician and Consultant Endocrinologist at Galway University Hospitals. She serves as the Director of the Institute of Clinical Trials at the University of Galway, where she leads strategic initiatives in translational research and clinical trial innovation. With advanced degrees including an MD, PhD, MMedEd, and MClinTrials, Professor Dunne has made significant contributions to diabetes research, particularly in pregnancy. She currently holds leadership roles as President of the Irish Endocrine Society (2021–2024), National Specialty Director for Endocrinology Training (2023–2026), and Lead of the All Ireland Clinical Trial Network in Diabetes. Her achievements have been recognized with prestigious awards such as the Norbert Freinkel Award from the American Diabetes Association (2024) and the Jørgen Pedersen Award from the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (2021). A Fulbright Scholar at Columbia University, she has also served as Head of the School of Medicine at University of Galway and held governance roles with the Irish Medical Council and the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland.
