The Galway neuroscience Centre were proud to organise and host the Irish Brain Bee competition which took place on the 11th March. Organised by GNC investigators Prof. John Kelly and Dr. Ciara Egan, the Brain Bee is an international competition, promotes student engagement with neuroscience through competition.  This was the fourth occasion that the GNC have organised the national Brain Bee in Ireland. The Brain Bee was conducted virtually, and saw 38 transition year students from Presentation College in Headford and St. Paul’s School in Oughterard take part. It consisted of three rounds of questions drawn from a Neuroscience textbook that the students had been studying since January.

The winner of the competition was Shane McEvaddy from Presentation College who will go forward to represent Ireland at the International Brain Bee World Championships to be held virtually as part of Neuroscience 2024 (the annual meeting for Society for Neuroscience) in October.
