In parallel to our ongoing research mission, through the University of Galway Global Challenges programme, our University has committed to investing funds to enable research initiatives with genuine transformative potential.

Genuine Transformative Potential

We have identified areas where our research community genuinely believes we have the potential to deliver transformative impacts through engagement with others.

We do not imply that we will have every solution in the face of the global challenges listed below, but our university is committed to encouraging this ambition and unleashing our creative and collaborative approach.

Projects

The Tidal Energy project 'TIDAL-GES' was the first project supported by the University of Galway Global Challenges, supported under the theme Decarbonisation.

The RADClot project aims to improve acute stroke treatment through innovative Artificial Intelligence (AI). The project sits under the theme of Human-centred Data.

Thanks

The Office of the Vice-President for Research and Innovation thanks our research community and our many external communities of engagement for their continued interest in working with us to help address these global challenges.
