Diversity in STEM

Gender in STEM

We are dedicated to advancing gender equality by fostering an inclusive culture, supporting career progression for all genders, and addressing systemic barriers through initiatives, policies, and the Athena Swan framework.

Ethnicity & Refugee Support in STEM

EU Passworld: UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency in Ireland, Nasc, the Migrant and Refugee Rights Centre, and University of Galway are establishing the EU-Passworld project in Ireland. This offers the opportunity for a refugee currently residing in Nigeria to continue their higher education at the University of Galway.

Disability and STEM

We strive to create an inclusive learning environment, ensuring students with disabilities can thrive as independent learners and graduates.

LGBT and STEM

We are committed to fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment for LGBT+ staff and students in STEM, supported by the EDI Campus Committee and the LGBT+ Staff Network through events, initiatives, and policy development.

Social Disadvantage and STEM

We address barriers faced by students from socially disadvantaged backgrounds, working to ensure equitable access, participation, and success in higher education through targeted supports, outreach, and inclusive policies.

Diversity in STEM Case Studies

The University of Galway is committed to broadening participation and representation in STEM by fostering diversity, addressing barriers to access, and creating pathways that support underrepresented groups to thrive in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
